A MEMOIR BY DR. SHAMIKA STRACHAN

The Space
Between Goodbyes

A Memoir of Loss, Faith, and the God Who Stays

Dr. Shamika Strachan buried her sister, her mother, and both of her grandparents. The Space Between Goodbyes is her account of that season — the numbness, the honest questions, and the slow work of learning to stand again.

A book in the making.

A MOMENT FOR YOUR SOUL

Start here.
Start gently.

You don’t need perfect words or a perfect day.
Just a little space to be present with God.

WHEN YOU FEEL WEARY

You are allowed to rest.

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”MATTHEW 11:28 · KJV

There are days when even the ordinary things feel heavy. You may be showing up for everyone else while wondering how much you have left to give.

Jesus’ invitation does not ask you to become stronger before you come. It invites you to come while you are weary. Rest can begin with admitting that you need it.

Today, let one small pause be enough. Put down what can wait. Bring one honest sentence to God. You do not have to solve your whole life in this moment.

A SIMPLE PRAYER

God, I come as I am. Help me release what I cannot carry today. Give me grace to rest, courage to ask for help, and hope for the next step. Amen.

Take a moment to reflect +

What am I carrying that I can set down for today? What would a gentle, realistic act of rest look like?

You might sit quietly, write a few words on paper, or share your answer with someone you trust.

FAITH IS PERSONAL. THE JOURNEY CAN BE SHARED.

There is strength
in being seen.

Let someone listen. Let someone pray with you.
You don’t have to carry everything on your own.
